Roland Hill

Just realized today that the late Roland Hill, the "modern biographer of Lord Acton," was a convert himself.

He published a memoir, A Time Out of Joint.

The Decadents Ended Up As Catholics

Nice piece on a flush of new books on the Decadents by Michael Dirda today: The ’90s are having a literary moment. That is, the 1890s. . .

I note in the comments: "What do Frederick Rolfe, Aubrey Beardsley, Lionel Johnson, Alfred Douglas, Oscar Wilde, and Pamela Colman Smith all have in common? They were converts to the Catholic Church."

Rare Image of Newman at Oxford

Recently acquired this rare photo of Newman. I believe it is an image of Blessed John Henry in Oxford in 1879 to receive the first honorary fellowship from Trinity College. I know he sat for a painted portrait then, but I have been able to find no other photographic images--indeed I have seen no other copies of this image. Would welcome any additional information.
